News announcements from Intel Developer Forum, Palm Springs, CA. - August 31, 1999
ViewSonic Accelerates the Adoption of Digital Visual Interface Specification
ViewSonic to Showcase All-Digital DVI-based CRTs and LCDs at Intel Developer Forum
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, Palm Springs, Calif., August 31, 1999 - Booth #89 --ViewSonic Corporation has announced support of the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) and adoption of the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) specification for LCD and CRT displays. In doing so, ViewSonic will preview its digital Display TechnologyTM roadmap that outlines the strategy to migrate its 15", 17", 19" and 21" (various viewables) line of award-winning CRTs and LCDs to digital technology.
"Replacing analog with digital interfaces on the PC platform should improve overall system performance and make the set up process easier," said Steve Spina, strategic initiatives manager at Intel Corporation and administrator for the DDWG. "The move to digital interfaces for both CRT and LCD displays is an important move for the entire industry. ViewSonic's announcement will help accelerate the adoption of the DDWG DVI specification."
As the rush to digital computing and communications increases, three major milestones have emerged as critical success factors. Personal computer manufacturers must commit to a faster ramp up for the DVI specification and integrate DVI on every new PC manufactured. In addition, the traditional VGA connector must be phased out of new model PCs to ease the transition to digital for end users. In each case, DVI Display Technology is the key enabling technology that will speed market adoption.
Because of ViewSonic's OptiSync initiative, display systems will have exceptional picture quality, be easier to use, require fewer controls than analog monitors, have increased reliability and deliver accelerated PC performance. End users with the same monitor have a choice in programming different frequency settings.
ViewSonic Adopts DVI 2-2-2
"ViewSonic is celebrating another first in our industry," said Marc McConnaughey, vice president of technology and sourcing, ViewSonic Corporation. "Others have announced DVI support on LCDs but no one has ever announced all digital support for CRT and LCD products."
ViewSonic Corporation, the leading worldwide provider of advanced display technologies, is uniquely positioned to provide the requisite enabling technology for each milestone on the road to all-digital. As described in their all-digital roadmap, ViewSonic is implementing an aggressive strategy around the DDWG's DVI specification.
"ViewSonic is committed to supporting new specifications that deliver the best quality and value in display solutions to our customers," said Peter Weedfald, executive senior vice president of marketing and strategic business, ViewSonic Corporation. "The DVI specification exemplifies this strategy and will expedite the move toward digital computing."
