FUJITSU TO INTRODUCE SYSTEMS USING DVI CONNECTOR

Continues to Lead Way in Defining New Standards for the PC Industry

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, PALM SPRINGS, Calif., August 31, 1999--- Fujitsu Limited today announced its firm support for the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) specification. DVI represents a major step forward in display technology, delivering 100% accurate representation, fast performance and pure digital display quality. Fujitsu plans to introduce PC systems using the DVI connector in the near future.

Because DVI is fully digital, it delivers a true image from what was originally created and stored. Unlike the conventional RGB interface, a DVI transceiver provides 100 percent data recovery in the receiving end. In addition, there is no additional noise introduced during transmission. As the PC industry embraces flat panel display, analog RGB has lost favor as the preferred display transmission format.

"Any conversion of digital data to analog and vice versa introduces data loss and degrades the image quality," said Hisao Murataka, director of Fujitsu's Platform Developing Department, Desktop Products Division. "What is so great about DVI technology is that image data in the graphics controller can be sent directly to the flat panel with no need for either a D/A converter on the PC side or an A/D converter in the receiving end of the flat panel."

As a founding member of the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG), which defined the DVI specification, Fujitsu has been instrumental in DVI becoming the standard for flat panel interfaces. Other DDWG members include Compaq, HP, IBM, Intel, NEC, and SiI.

"As a major PC systems and components supplier, we will continue to lead the way in defining new standards for the PC industry," stated Koichi Inoue, general manager of Fujitsu's Desktop Products Division. "We are very happy to see DVI become the de facto standard for a digital flat panel interface. Now, customers can interchange display panels and systems as they wish and still be able to plug and play. Furthermore, customers will enjoy the best display quality ever, far superior to what was possible using analog RGB."
