SILICON IMAGE WORKS WITH INDUSTRY LEADERS TO SPUR DVI ADOPTION

Silicon Image today announced it is working with NVIDIA and Molex to drive host-side Digital Visual Interface (DVI) adoption by PC OEMs

SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 27, 2001--Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in high-bandwidth semiconductor and system solutions for mass markets, today announced it is working with NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA) and Molex (Nasdaq: MOLX, MOLXA) to drive host-side Digital Visual Interface (DVI) adoption by PC OEMs. Using Silicon Image's market-leading SiI™ 164™ PanelLink® transmitter, NVIDIA is offering DVI output on its leading graphics cards, including the GeForce3™ and GeForce2 MX™, as well as its nForce™ Platform Processing Architecture. Molex will supply DVI connectors for a complete host-side DVI solution for PC OEMs.

Ross Young, president of market research firm DisplaySearch, noted, "DVI is a growing factor in consumers' PC and display purchasing decisions. LCD monitor ASPs have declined dramatically over recent months due to panel overcapacity. When coupled with the enhanced image quality, reduced power consumption and sleek design of LCD monitors, these significant price reductions have spurred sales of LCD monitors to record levels. This is significant for DVI host adoption because LCD monitors are the primary driver for DVI shipments, and lack of demand-pull from the desktop monitor market to date has been a limiting factor in mainstream adoption. Once DVI graphics cards are no longer an expensive option for PC OEMs, another hurdle to mainstream DVI adoption will be cleared."

Dan Vivoli, senior vice president of marketing for NVIDIA, noted, "We've seen increased interest in DVI graphics cards from PC OEMs and are committed to providing our customers a cost-effective DVI solution. By using our award-winning GPUs with Silicon Image's robust DVI solution, end-users can experience unmatched performance and image quality on the PC."

"We are pleased to work together with NVIDIA and Molex to promote widespread DVI adoption," stated Parviz Khodi, Silicon Image's vice president of marketing. "I believe we've reached a turning point in the DVI adoption curve. We've reduced the cost adder for DVI to a point where it is extremely affordable for PC OEMs to add DVI-out capability to their systems. This, combined with the greater consumer interest in DVI-compliant flat panel monitors, should pave the way for mainstream DVI adoption."

Gary Manchester, group product manager at Molex, noted, "DVI is clearly the wave of the future where PCs are concerned. As a long-standing supporter of DVI, we are committed to bringing the advantages of DVI technology to the PC desktop. DVI offers an unparalleled visual experience, and we are pleased to be working with Silicon Image and NVIDIA to offer end users a low-cost solution for high-resolution digital display technology."

Silicon Image is the DVI market leader with more than 20 million PanelLink ICs shipped to date. PanelLink is the market-leading implementation of the industry's DVI standard used to connect digital host and display devices. The best-selling DVI transmitter on the market today, the SiI 164 transmitter was the first chip on the market to run 5 gigabits/sec. in a single-link video interface, the bandwidth required to meet the industry's DVI specification. The SiI 164 provides PC and add-in-board manufacturers a low-cost, all-digital video interface supporting the full range of display resolutions from VGA (640 x 480) to UXGA (1600 x 1200).
