PRESS RELEASE

PANELLINK® FROM SILICON IMAGE ALLOWS 3DFX MAC VOODOO USERS TO ENHANCE THEIR VISUAL EXPERIENCE WITH ALL-DIGITAL, FLAT PANEL DISPLAYS

Design win from retail market leader catapults PanelLink onto retail shelves and online stores

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, San Jose, Calif., August 30, 2000 — Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leading provider of high-bandwidth semiconductor solutions, today announced that its SiI 164 PanelLink® chip has been designed into the first two Mac-branded products from San Jose, Calif.-based 3dfx Interactive® Inc. (Nasdaq: TDFX). Designed specifically to support the Mac computing platform, the Voodoo4™ 4500 Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) and Voodoo5™ 5500 PCI for Mac graphics cards feature a PanelLink Digital Visual Interface (DVI), enabling support of the latest all-digital, flat panel displays.

"Our goal is to become the market leader in Mac graphics solutions, and we believe we are off to an excellent start with the introduction of the Voodoo5 5500 PCI for Macintosh," said Bryan Speece, director of Macintosh business development for 3dfx Interactive Inc. "Graphics performance and visual quality are key to our customers' visual experience. From the ground up, we have designed our Voodoo4 4500 PCI and Voodoo5 5500 PCI for raising the bar on 2D/3D/video acceleration that exceeds the expectations of Mac enthusiasts. To that end, we included Silicon Image's proven PanelLink Digital technology to ensure our first Mac-branded products support new, all-digital flat panel displays."

Steve Tirado, Silicon Image's executive vice president of marketing and business development, noted that the design win further propels PanelLink into the retail market. "This endorsement from 3dfx is indicative of not only DVI's growing momentum in the marketplace, but also the continued adoption of PanelLink as leading manufacturers' DVI solution of choice. Being incorporated into the first Mac-branded PCI boards introduced by retail market leader 3dfx is a significant milestone in the history of PanelLink. Consumers can now go down to their local retail store or log onto their favorite online retail site and purchase graphics accelerator products featuring PanelLink Digital."

Added Tirado, "PanelLink is enabling consumers to view their high quality graphics — whether they are derived from games or design applications — on the most advanced digital flat panels available today. In the case of the latest 3dfx Voodoo products for Macs, this means that Mac enthusiasts can get fast and feature-rich PCI boards that are compatible with Apple's high-end Cinema and Studio displays — enabling the highest-quality digital experience."

The SiI 164 transmitter provides PC and add-in-board manufacturers a low-cost, all-digital video interface supporting the full range of display resolutions from VGA (640 x 480) to UXGA (1600 x 1200). Its ability to scale from 25 to 165 mega-pixels per second (Mpps) makes it compatible with the highest-resolution flat panel displays available today, as well as the new breed of digital CRTs. The SiI 164 was the first chip on the market to run 5 gigabits/sec in a single-link video interface, the bandwidth required to meet the industry's DVI specification.

3dfx's Voodoo4 4500 and Voodoo5 5500 PCIs for Mac are tailored specifically to address the needs of Mac users, whether they are pre-press professionals or hardcore gamers. Providing the world's fastest 2D and 3D performance for the Mac platform, the Voodoo5 was crowned "Best of Show" at Macworld by MacWEEK magazine. The Voodoo5 enables advanced T-Buffer™ cinematic effects and is the Mac industry's first 3D hardware solution to feature full-scene anti-aliasing, a breakthrough feature that smoothes out "jagged edges" and eliminates "pixel popping." Both the Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 products are engineered around 3dfx's new VSA-100 graphics processor, which will accelerate 2D and 3D Mac graphics technologies including OpenGL™, QuickDraw™, 3D Rave and 3dfx's own GLIDE™ format.

3dfx's solutions for the Macintosh featuring Silicon Image's SiI 164 may be ordered from a variety of leading retailers and online stores. The Voodoo5 5500 PCI is now on sale, and 3dfx expects Voodoo4 PCI to arrive in retail stores in September. For a complete list of retailers, please visit http://www.3dfx.com
