COMPAQ, NEC-MITSUBISHI ELECTRONICS DISPLAY, SUN AND VIEWSONIC JUMP ON THE DIGITAL BANDWAGON; JOIN SILICON IMAGE IN PROMOTING "DIGITAL IS BETTER"

SUNNYVALE, Calif., December 12, 2000 — Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIMG), a price/performance leader in high-bandwidth semiconductor solutions for mass markets, today announced that the industry's leading PC, desktop and display manufacturers have joined Silicon Image to promote the advantages of the digital viewing experience. Rallying around the cry "Digital is Better," market makers Compaq, IBM, NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display, Sun Microsystems and ViewSonic have collaborated with Silicon Image in an advertising campaign designed to raise consumer awareness of digital display technology and its benefits.

Going a step further, the campaign assists consumers in identifying state-of-the-art digital products featuring PanelLink® Digital technology—the market-leading implementation of the industry's Digital Visual Interface (DVI) standard. Products showcased in the advertising campaign are among the most advanced digital all-in-one computers and displays, including flat panel displays from Compaq and ViewSonic, IBM's NetVista all-in-one computer, NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display's new NEC MultiSync® digital cathode ray tube (CRT) and Sun Microsystems' Sun Ray™ appliance.

"As a worldwide leader in the flat-panel monitor market, NEC-Mitsubishi is committed to delivering display products that set new standards in quality and innovation," said R.A. Atanus, director of product development, NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America, Inc. "The momentum for digital products is growing, and NEC-Mitsubishi is positioned with solutions designed to bridge the gap between analog and digital. By incorporating PanelLink with NEC's Ambix™ dual-connection technology, NEC-Mitsubishi has developed a category of industry-leading LCD and CRT monitors designed to marry competing analog and digital standards - alleviating users' concerns regarding compatibility with tomorrow's digital output."

Compaq Director Tad Bodeman noted, "Compaq has consistently been recognized for its award-winning flat panel displays. The display market is going digital, and we are at the forefront with several DVI-compliant flat panel displays. As a founding member of the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG), we are behind Silicon Image's efforts to educate consumers about digital display technology and draw their attention to the growing number of digitally enabled products available today."

Noted Marietta Schoenherz, director of corporate communications at ViewSonic, "Digital is clearly the wave of the future, and we want our customers to know that we have standardized on state-of-the-art digital display technology to optimize their viewing experience. We are pleased to join Silicon Image in promoting the benefits of digital display technology."

The PanelLink ad campaign provides a follow-up mechanism and call to action by directing readers to visit a companion website created specifically for the campaign and located at www.digitalisbetter.com. The website groups state-of-the-art digital products powered by PanelLink into product categories, including flat panel displays, monitors/digital CRTs, projectors, digital TVs and digitally enabled PCs and graphics cards. Upon selecting the display category of choice, consumers can browse among a complete list of suppliers, viewing products by photo and description. Consumers may place an order or contact an OEM for more information by directly linking to the OEM's website.

Silicon Image's Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Mike Kelley noted, "We're very excited about this consumer educational campaign and its implications for digital display demand. The support from our customers, the leading players in the PC and display markets, has been critical to this endeavor. They are convinced that digital is better and are making available an ever-widening array of digitally enabled products powered by PanelLink, the benchmark for quality, reliability and performance. PanelLink is driving digital for the consumer."

Ads under the "State-of-the-Digital-Art" banner are appearing now in the following publications: Time Digital, PC Magazine, MacWorld, Stereo Review's Sound and Vision, Audio Video Interiors, Stereophile Guide to Home Theater, Widescreen Review and Hi-Vi.
